A word from Midwest filmmakerTrevor Slattery about the film, NOWTHEN:
This project was three years in the making for Jake Antisdel, Gavin Matson and I. The Meliora crew based in Minneapolis, and over the years, we had friends join us to film both locally and on various trips. Most of the footage was shot here in the Twin Cities and up in Houghton, MI (featured in Issue 22.3). I also wanted to bring in riders I’m really excited about from Michigan—Adam Hohmeyer and Noah Genzink.
Alex Kirkland and Blake Lamb are two of my favorite people to have around when they’re in town. J DeForge moved here a few years ago, and I’ve been a fan since we worked together on earlier projects. They’re now great friends and an important part of this film.
Making this movie wasn’t easy— since winters in Minnesota have been hit or miss lately. But we made the most of it, and a few amazing trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula helped bring everything together—both the video and our friendships.
We rode, we laughed, and in the end, it feels really special to have created something with such a talented crew. This is my ode to Midwest snowboarding.
