With the season just hitting it’s stride, it’s never a bad idea to brush up on backcountry safety, even for the most experienced riders. frequency TSJ contributor and Beacon Rally participant Pat Kennedy has the details:

“Mt Baker Education Center, REI and a sluff-load of backcountry educators invites you to a Backcountry Education Day at Mt Baker. Learn about basic search technique including beacon, shovel and probe use. Beginners and Seasoned Veterans are welcome. 2 levels of basic education and 1 station for seasoned veterans to race at. Attendees should have their own Beacon, Probe and Shovel. Free event with over $2500 in backcountry gear to be given away.
