Pure Adrenaline

David Blackwell
David Blackwell has been snowboarding since 1989 and writing nonsense about it for almost as long. Having learned to ride on the bone-breaking plastic slopes of the U.K., he’s since spent winters in Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Japan, and now fills his days hunting powder in the French Alps and chasing Atlantic swells in West Wales. A longtime contributor for Whitelines and The Inertia, David has interviewed several legends of snowboarding, including JP Walker and David Benedek. Now in middle age, he has managed (largely thanks to his wife’s patience) to raise three daughters, who have all graced the podium of the British Snowboard Championships.

Angeli Feri
Angeli is a “city chick-gorl girl hybrid” based in New York. Her work lies at the intersection of outdoor recreation and increasing equity and access for all. Some of her on-snow accomplishments include: five (and counting) specialized snowboard instructor certifications, logistics and operations for some of your favorite snowboard events, and producing an award-winning short film on the Dominican Republic’s snowboarding culture in the Northeast. Catch her at the 44 Board Shop in White Plains, NY, coaching for one of NYC’s boardsports nonprofits, or somewhere off-grid chasing her current active-pursuit obsessions like rock climbing, backcountry touring, functional fitness training and trail running.

Mikaela Kautzky
Curently based in London, UK, Mikaela Kautzky is an interdisciplinary artist, photographer and filmmaker from Vancouver, BC. Mikaela works between the outdoor, sports, arts, music and fashion worlds—often with women subjects or collaborators. Her work has recurring themes of maximalism, color, patterns and taking things apart and putting them back together. More of her work can be found on her Instagram account, @mik1000k, or on her website, mikaelakautzky.com.

Timofey Trushin
Hailing from the small town of Kemerovo in Siberia, Russia, Timofey Trushin never predicted snowboarding would dominate his life. Initially studying and practicing law, Timofey quickly realized he enjoyed snowboarding much more. He’s spent the last 26 years on snow doing just that. He is now a snowboard instructor and snowcat guide, and while his job takes him all over the world, he still believes Siberia is the best place to call home. Timofey has never considered photography a profession, and that’s probably why he enjoys it so much. He takes pleasure in the process, thinking of his images as snapshots from a diary of his life. You can find more of his work on his Instagram account @satantakemydog.

Shawn Vecchione
Shawn “Vec” Vecchione is a New Englander fueled by pure adrenaline, having spent his life tracking down the world’s most elusive waves and deepest snow. While his surfboard-shaping career ignited in the legendary waters of Hawaii, his heart never left the rugged coastlines of the Northeast. Driven by a deep love for home, Vec relocated his shaping career to New England, trading tropical paradise for the raw, untamed energy of the Atlantic. When winter locks in, he transitions from the ocean to the mountains, spending winters tracking down hidden backcountry powder in Vermont before approaching Mount Washington’s steep couloirs via splitboard each spring. You can witness his latest creations and alpine and surf adventures on Instagram @vecsurfboards or at vecsurfboards.com.
