As he compresses into the first corner of the Dirksen Derby Banked Slalom, eyes quickly scanning the turn and locking onto the exit, Chauncey Sorenson anticipates the explosion of push into turn two. He feels his snowboard wind up like, in his words, “a kinetic energy battery.” The source of that energy is an exceptionally long board compared to what most pilot through the Derby’s tight banks—a 195 cm Lib Tech Doughboy. It’s all he rides. While many snowboarders are searching for something light and “surfy,” Chauncey looks for stability and stiffness in his chosen mode of transport, going way longer than standard issue.
