The term “snowmageddon” has been thrown around a fair bit in the news lately. But in my 15 years living in Juneau, AK, I’ve never seen so much snow touch down and stick around as it did in December 2025. Snowmaggedon, snowpocalypse, snowzilla—whatever you want to call it, the record-breaking 82 inches of December snow that blanketed our city was finally worth the hyperbole.

Although Juneau is known for its rich selection of natural, skatepark-like features in the backcountry, there is still a small group of riders that take to the streets when they get the chance. Jumping on it quickly is imperative, as dreamy urban conditions at sea level usually only last a day or two before turning into sopping, sticky mashed potatoes, melting and disappearing as if they were never there.
