Irreverence and Frequent Typos

Fredrik Perry

Fredrik Douglas Perry—aka Freddy Perry—is a professional jokester who also happens to be a pretty good snowboarder. At the time of writing, Perry has more than a decade of video parts under his belt and is known for pushing boundaries of snowboard edits into the realms of romcoms and B-movies action flicks. Born in Stavanger, Norway, he later moved to Oslo and now calls Tryvann his local resort. He hasn’t experienced summer in the past three years, following the snow to Australia as soon as the temps get too mild in the Scandinavian highlands, and has notoriously turned down a sponsorship from the fashion brand with the same name because he “wants to keep it real.”

Megan Michelson

Born and raised in a small town in the Sierra Nevada foothills, freelance journalist Megan Michelson now lives in Tahoe City, CA, where she loves exploring the mountains in her backyard. A former editor at ESPN.com and Outside, she’s now a regular contributor to publications like The Ski Journal, Mountain Gazette and Backcountry. Her favorite stories to write are in-depth profiles of female athletes who are breaking the mold, including her piece on snowboarder Maddie Mastro (see page 50). You can find more of her work at meganmichelson.com.

Sam McMahon

Originally from the UK but now based in the French Alps, Samuel McMahon is a filmmaker, photographer, and writer who cut his teeth at Whitelines Magazine. Now the creative director of Nidecker Snowboards, his work is increasingly medium-agnostic, focused on finding the humor and benevolence in stories about snowboarding. By working in snowboarding, Sam says, he’s found a place to combine his passion with a lifelong tendency to overthink everything.

Tucker Adams

Tucker Adams grew up in the small hills of western North Carolina where his passion for the glide began. In college, he spent his days working park crew at Appalachian Ski Mountain and his nights in the darkroom, learning the meticulous magic of film photography. Thirteen years ago, Tucker moved to Truckee, CA, where he began documenting his friends in the Tahoe backcountry before progressing to shooting professional athletes in big mountains over the past six years. He spends his winters throughout the northern US and Canada—notably Tahoe, Jackson Hole, Washington state, interior British Columbia and Alaska. Today, Tucker is the principal photographer at Teton Gravity Research. Find him on Instagram @tuckerscreative.

Kael Martin

Growing up in Bellingham, WA, Kael Martin spent his early years riding at Mt. Baker Ski Area. He quickly developed a classic PNW style and was featured as an athlete in this publication and others. After earning a master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Washington, he appeared in several video projects, including GO! A Snowboarding Road Trip (2014), with Lucas Debari and friends, and Off and On (2017), which profiled Kael, Kyle Miller and Johnny Brady as they balanced full-time work with snowboarding in front of the camera. Kael currently lives in Seattle, WA, where he works in hydrographic mapping and hydrology and continues to explore the rivers and mountains of the Pacific Northwest whenever possible.
