No one expected monsoon-like conditions when they travelled to California for Snowboy Production’s inaugural event at Kingvale: The Orange Grove—a jib gathering inspired by Californian agriculture.

I traveled over 1,000 miles from Squamish, BC—leaving behind waist-deep blower up north for 200 feet of slushy rail garden in the Sierra Nevada. Ten laps through the creatively manicured park and I’d already gained 10 pounds of water weight. There wasn’t a familiar soul riding the rope tow.

These were uncharted waters for a Canadian like me. But one thing was clear: every rider in attendance had the same foundation—jibbing was central to their origin story. And from my experience, that’s all you really need.
