Taking To The Backcountry: Sage Kotsenburg’s “The Other Side” Episode 3

After spending the better part of his life competing in the contest circuit, Olympian Slopestyle Gold Medalist Sage Kotsenburg felt that he was in need of an escape from the scene. “The Other Side” is a web series that follows Sage around the world as he competes with himself and his own riding instead of with others for a spot on the podium. In episode three, Sage takes his travels to the Swiss Alps and acclimates himself to powder, backcountry kickers, and filming.

“Nothing’s enough, you know?” Sage says. “You do one side of snowboarding and you do everything you want to do in that side — but in the backcountry it’s like there’s never enough. There’s always a gnarlier line to do, or a bigger jump to do a trick off, or a bigger slash to do or a steeper line, there’s always more. There’s almost a sense that you can’t ever win — you can’t win the backcountry. There’s always something more.”
